A native Wellingtonian from Lower Hutt, Tonchi Begovich was drawn to the beautiful Kapiti Coast in the mid 1990’s, intent on making the area, home, and carving a career path that would allow his love of all things construction to flourish.

A Registered Quantity Surveyor, Tonchi began his journey working for local construction company, Redican Allwood where he was Senior Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager on the high-profile Summerset Retirement villages account. This marked the beginning of a professional relationship with Summerset that lasted nearly two decades.

The success enjoyed in the project managers role led to Tonchi coming to the attention of prominent local developer and Founder of Summerset, John O’Sullivan. Over the course of three years, they worked on some successful private developments, including the prestigious, Ferndale subdivision in Waikanae, famed for being a high standard, sustainable and environmentally friendly development.

The skills learned and honed over the previous decade were fully brought to bear in Tonchi’s next role. Summerset Retirement Villages realised the need to internalise their project management and construction process. This massive undertaking was placed in Tonchi’s care. Looking back, he marks this period as a significant professional accomplishment, not only due to the significant growth of the company, brought about in part due to the efforts of the wider team he established, but also because of the personal growth achieved by so many of the team members he proudly assembled nationwide. Over the course of Tonchi’s tenure at Summerset Retirement Villages, the company’s value increased fivefold.

Whilst senior management roles allowed Tonchi to develop his talents and add many more, there was a burning desire to use his many years of experience and become self-employed and return to the tools. This was finally achieved in partnership with Des Thomas, and the formation of Diamond Residential Ltd. Here, Tonchi utilises his array of skills, including procurement and project management to offer clients the very highest level of service, with unrivalled attention to detail, complimenting Des’s craftsman superior build knowledge and workmanship.

When not working, Tonchi can be found supporting his children in their sporting exploits or, as a family, making the most of the walking and bike trails found throughout the region. His other interests extend to community work being an Elected Member of the Waikanae Community Board. A hobbyist beekeeper and avid golfer/hacker, weather permitting, he can be found gracing the fairways of Waikanae Golf Club, of which he is a proud sponsor.
